This is indeed a freaking amazing album. And this review has reminded me that I haven’t listened to it in too long – I shall have to put that right this weekend!
Razor X, have you heard Norah Jones’s cover of “The Grass Is Blue” from the Dolly Parton tribute album? It is a very good cover, even though the arrangement is quite different. Just thought you might be interested.
I may have heard it once when the tribute album first came out. I’ll have to give it another listen because I don’t remember much about it.
This album is ok but my fav. of her bluegrass albums is Halo and Horns!
Of her three bluegrass albums (if “Halos & Horns” can be counted as such), this is actually my least favorite, apart from the title track which truly is one of her finest efforts ever. I’m not generally much for bluegrass, which obviously cramps my ability for appreaciating this a bit, and I think this is the reason why I like this album the least – it is decidedly the most bluegrass sounding of the three.
No surprise here, but I really love Dolly’s piano-driven live version of “The Grass Is Blue” – even more so than the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClZ08bgHPoY
