This 60s hit namechecks the boxer Muhammad Ali, who died today, under his former name of Cassius Clay:

    It’s a cool song but Muhammed Ali actually died three years ago (Jan 17, 1942 – Jun 03, 2016). This song was Skeeter’s last top ten hit

    Oops! I did think when I saw the news item I was inspired by that he was already dead, but assumed I was mixing him up with someone else 😉

      It’s pretty hard to mix up Muhammad Ali with anybody else. lol.
      ..
      BTW, nowadays, one can change one’s name–or even one’s sex!–and the media and public instantly fall in line.
      It was different back then. Cassius Clay changed his name to Ali in 1964, but it met a lot of resistance–As late as the early ’70s, his name would still be written as Clay in some circles, not just in the South.
      Anyway, “Cassius Clay” is a lot more alliterative for a song than “Muhammad Ali.”
