    Hysterical.
    That’s the song that put Hayes Carll on the map.
    Don Imus played the hell out of it on his morning radio show, when it came out.
    I’d be interested to hear from HC if he got any flak over that song, from certain quarters, or if he was barred from playing it, anywhere.
    The song sounded like Hayes was going to be the next Robert Earl Keen, but I don’t know if he’s done anything else in that vein.

    And knowing that would make the song better or worse?
    Clearly it’s an irreverent, controversial song that could be revered or reviled depending on the religious viewpoint or sense of humor of the listener. It was first released 11 years ago.

    For the record when a venue books an act they generally don’t give the performer a list of songs that they can or cannot song. That’s ridiculous.
