Bill sounds here like he’s giving an invocation for putting up his Festivus Grievance Pole.

When Bill wrote this he must have been watching too much Fox News “War On Christmas” nonsense. There is no official government sanctioned “ban” on using the word or celebrating Christmas. Everyone is free say “Merry Christmas” and celebrate the holiday – or not – the way they always have. No laws forbid it. No Christian Churches have been forced to close by the government. In most cities for the last decade or so the highest rated radio stations during the holiday season play CHRISTMAS songs. Their playlists include religious CHRISTMAS CAROLS as well as the secular wintertime & Santa Claus songs. “War On Christmas” is just more of the typical manufactured propaganda and fake outrage that Fox News and their disciples love to traffic in. Don’t believe it. It truly is FAKE NEWS.

My favorite Bill Anderson Christmas recording is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. Based on the story he first told in his 1961 hit “Po’ Folks” it was released as a single for the 1968 Christmas season. The following year he included it on his Decca album “Bill Anderson Christmas.” Sad to say that entire 1969 album has never been issued on CD or as a download although “Po’ Folks Christmas” has shown up as a download and on a couple of various artist Christmas compilation CD’s.
Buyer Beware: Amazon offers a download of re-recorded versions of songs from the 1969 LP but shows the original album cover. Nice recordings but not the Decca originals.

Here’s the 1968 Decca recording of Po’ Folks Christmas
