This is from the Mark Collie “Alive at Brushy Mountain” Prison CD and video from the early 2000s, where Mark unabashedly borrowed and updated the “concept ” from Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison/San Quentin three decades previously. McGraw–the bigger star (to put it mildly!)–was a guest.
I know for sure that Mark knew Johnny Cash to at least some extent (though I don’t know how close their relationship was). I saw Cash perform in the early ’90s at a club in the West 50s in New York, not far from Times Square. (That was before the area was all Disneyfied and was still a bit seedy.) Mark Collie opened. Mark came out again during Cash’s set and they talked a bit and did a duet on Johnny’s “I Still Miss Someone.”
