Hag revives the 1941 classic written by Wiley Walker and Gene Sullivan. While ostensibly a country song, I think many more pop and easy listening artists have recorded the song than did country artists, Anyway, it is a great song

Haggard at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth in 2004. Janie Fricke joined Merle for this “Ol’ Country Singer” concert that is available on DVD. This track is from rehearsal footage included as bonus material. That’s why there’s no audience reaction or applause at the end. The DVD incorrectly titles the song as “Blue Moon Turns To Gold.”

During the late 1970’s both sides of Merle’s singles often charted. “When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold” was issued as the B side to “Ramblin’ Fever.” Both sides of that MCA single peaked at #2 in late August 1977. In addition to crafting his own unforgettable songs Haggard frequently revived classic songs from his youth and updated them for a new generation of music fans. This was one of his best efforts.
