George Jones & Brenda Carter took this song to #12 in 1968 for the Musicor label. I thought this song would have made a dynamite George Jones & Melba Montgomery single but Melba left Musicor shortly before this song was recorded

Funny that George “ad libs” a change in the lyric from “Which one do you want the most, them Opry stars or me?” to “Which one do you want the most, me or Jerry Lee ?” in the second and third choruses.
Jerry Lee Lewis had the smash hit “What’s Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made a Loser Out of Me)” the same year as George’s recording of this less-famous Milwaukee song with Brenda Carter came out.

That’s not an ad lib. It’s the same lyric that he sang on the version that he recorded with Brenda Carter.
