This song was from Waylon’s 1996 album RIGHT FOR THE TIME on Justice Records. It wasn’t one of his more successful albums, but I really liked it. I’m not sure that in these politically hyper-sensitive times, you could get away with a song like “Out of Jail”, but I’d like to see some try.

    PD
Heck, Johnny Cash’s “comeback” with Rick Rubin and American Recordings began with “Delia’s Gone,” a vicious murder ballad that had actually been recorded, with varying lyrics, by many singers–most notably Harry Belafonte!!–and even Cash himself decades before, but was new to the market in 1994, when the new version came out. The video with Kate Moss drew some controversy, but it did not overshadow the song.
You’re probably right that a record label in 2018 might have nixed Waylon’s “Out of Jail.” You’re much safer nowadays if you let the woman do the violence. “Goodbye Earl” or Jimmie Rodgers’ “Frankie and Johnny” would be just fine. “This story has no moral, this story has no end/
This story just goes to show that there ain’t no good in men.” What could be more in tune with the time? LOL.
