Not bad, but lacks the charisma of Webb Pierce’s original version or Carl Smith’s later cover. A blues singer named Ted Hawkins had a really interesting take on the song

I saw George live 16 times from 1996 to 2013, and of all the classics he covered in concert, this one was my all-time favorite.

Too many country acts from the past 25 years or so include pop or classic rock titles in their setlist rather than updating a country standard. I’ve walked out of shows before the end more times than I can count because an act plays some too-loud and too abrasive rock anthem during their encore, I’ve always believed that it tells the audience that country music is OK but not as good as the pop/rock stuff they would prefer to be playing. God Bless George for keepin’ it country and exposing worthy classic country titles to new audiences.
