Mark Gray was an extremely talented singer and songwriter who left Exile to seek solo stardom.

During the mid-1980s Columbia was touting Mark Gray as their star of the future just as RCA was touting Vince Gill as their next big star. While stardom eventually happened for Gill who left Pure Prairie League to seek a solo career (although not while he was with RCA), it never happened for Mark Gray

Although Gray would have four top ten solo singles, this duet with Tammy Wynette, which reached #7, proved to be his biggest hit.

I’m not sure why things didn’t work out for Gray, but they didn’t.

He passed away in December 2016 at the age of 64. His resume included songs that became hit singles for Alabama, Gary Morris, and Janie Fricke
