“He’s A Good Ole Boy” actually dates back to 1968 when it was released by Arlene Harden. Harden’s version wasn’t a huge hit (it cracked the top forty) but was a bigger hit in the southeast. I am still partial to Arlene’s version. Other than her work has part of the Harden Trio, to the best of my knowledge none of Arlene’s 19 chart singles have been released in a digital format
Keep in mind that some of these songs would have been new to Irish audiences. To us they may be covers of familiar material, not so overseas
I didn’t realize that there was a version prior to Chely’s. I always thought it dated back to the 90s and was written to sound like an old song.
