During the course of their career most major mid/late 20th country artists recorded at least one inspirational album. Charley Pride recorded two during his RCA tenure. The first was more successful than he could have imagined. “Did You Think To Pray” was released for the 1971 Easter season and went on to top the Billboard Country Album chart – an unusual accomplishment for a religious album. It had only happened once before. In 1966 Buck Owens’ LP “Dust On Mother’s Bible” topped the survey for two weeks.

Charley’s efforts were rewarded with his first two Grammy Awards – Best Sacred Performance for the entire album and Best Gospel Performance for the the song “Let Me Live.” That song was released as a single and climbed to #21 on the Billboard singles chart sharing that slot with the tag-along B side “Did You Think To Pray.” Charley’s jubilant live version of “Let Me Live” [misnamed on the YouTube clip] includes his backup group at that time Dave & Sugar.
