This was Paycheck’s “comeback” song in 1971 after more than a two year absence from the charts and one of lowest periods of his career. Billy Sherrill signed him to Epic and paired him with a song that debuted on the Soul Singles chart the week that Paycheck recorded it. Freddie North’s version eventually became a top 10 Soul hit although it stalled at #39 on the Hot 100. Written by Gary U.S. Bonds and Jerry Williams the song gave Paycheck a #2 country hit and re-launched his singing career. The song was revived 26 years later by Tracy Byrd who took it to #4 in 1997 with the amended title “Don’t Take Her She’s All I Got.”

For those that never heard it here is Freddie North’s original recording of that song.

I had heard Freddie’s recording, but only a few times and not in a long time. Thanks for posting it
