A lot of people must have “believed” in this song–it was the biggest hit of Don Williams’ career–by far. It spent two weeks at #1 on the country chart, which was twice as long as any of his other chart toppers. And it also made the pop-rock top 40, his only record to “cross over” that way. And the album that it led off went platinum–the only gold or platinum original album that Don ever had. It was also a hit internationally. Per Wikipedia, it was co-written by Roger Cook, a Britisher whose biggest claim to fame was writing “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” the Coca Cola jingle-cum-pop hit of the ’70s.
This song was so good that I noticed that my old pal “Pajama Boy” even got dressed up for it and is looking sharp behind Don, playing the electric guitar.

Wow – just can’t give it up can you? First you write a comment with cohesive thoughts that contains a few actual facts but then you have to remind everyone of your ridiculous misplaced comment from an earlier post. At least you’re consistent.

To be clear Cook wrote “I Believe In You” with another renowned songwriter Sam Hogin. However in the studio Don Williams and his producer Garth Fundis amended several of the lines although they did not request a writing credit.
