A fine performance by a fellow a few years away from stardom. This song was included in Cal’s third Kapp album TRAVELIN’ MAN released in early 1968. Real success would arrive about four years later

In many of these old country performances, we’re used to seeing the performers with big grins on their faces. while they sing lyrics about cheating, suffering, and misery. But this one takes that just about to its limit as Cal, with apparent “help” from Loretta, turns this song about losing everything literally into a joke!

SOME performers may have performed sad songs while smiling on TV shows but to state that MANY did that is yet another generalization rooted in your unfamiliarity with country music of that era. I am not “used to seeing performers with big grins on their faces while they sing lyrics about cheating, suffering, and misery” and I’ve watched hundreds of hours of those shows. For those keeping track this is another of your off-base comments not based in fact.
