This song was written by Sharon Higgins a singer/songwriter that was signed to the Wilburn Brothers publishing company Sure Fire Music. (For those not familiar the Wilburn’s were Loretta’s managers & publishers early in her career) The lyrics were similar in intent to Loretta’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough” and her fans made it her third #1 hit in April 1969. The Wilburns helped Sharon to be signed to Kapp Records. Although her three single releases never charted the final one had one of the best titles every created – “The Girl Who Always Does And Says She Don’t,” Higgins had several of her country and gospel songs recorded by other artists mostly as album tracks but none achieved hit status. She died in 2003

This was Sharon’s first Kapp single from 1969 and although she was a good singer her style was too similar to Loretta Lynn to create her own identity. Even the backing track sounds like it could have been from a Loretta Lynn recording in that era.
