Marty consistently scored big hits after “Singing The Blues” exploded in late 1956 but prior to that his releases were hit and miss. His tenure with Columbia began in 1951. “Time Goes By” was his 12th single release but only his fifth song to enter the Billboard country chart. It debuted at #14 in early January 1955 then disappeared the following week. Though not one of his best remembered songs it’s a pretty good little tune and allowed Marty to incorporate the little yodel that was so effective in “Singing The Blues.” Following the original single release of “Time Goes By” the song did not surface again until a 1973 vinyl album compilation of his 1950’s sides.
