Nice clip of an artist that I have seen many times in concert over the years. Bare became considerably more animated over time, but he remained a consummate professional

Great Bobby Bare performance just as his career was taking off. This is from an April 1964 TV show from Norway that included Bobby, Chet Atkins, The Anita Kerr Singers and headliner Jim Reeves. Seeing the Anita Kerr Singers live is a real treat. Last year I posted details about this show and a link to the entire TV program:

Bare is an interesting guy. He was on the country singles chart in the top 40 every year for 22 years in a row, from 1962 to 1983, usually with mid-chart entries. There aren’t a lot of artists who can match that particular longevity (though many artists had much bigger hits than Bare did). He sounded a lot like Cash, and could put over a story like Cash–but because Bare didn’t have the Cash persona to live up to, Bare could be even more adventuresome and wild in his choice of songs–Some of Bare’s cuts, with subjects like castration and bestiality–would have earned his albums warning labels if they had been issued in more recent decades, but back in the ’70s, it seems he and his producers had free rein. Most of Bare’s later albums have been reissued on CD in recent years and are definitely worth checking out.
