Merle’s tenure with MCA Records had concluded four years earlier at the time this song was released as a single. Included as a track on his 1980 “Back To The Barrooms” album it remained active on Merle’s concert set list during most of the 1980’s. Though rather thin on lyrical content it worked well onstage as a band-jam to buffer the many ballads that Haggard fans expected at his shows. In March 1985 MCA released a Haggard compilation album titled “His Best” that included “Make-Up And Faded Blue Jeans.” The song was then issued as a single release and gained enough airplay to chart in Billboard for 10 weeks peaking at #55 in July. It was the final “new” Haggard single issued on the MCA imprint.

Interestingly enough, this song was picked up by country bar and house bands and featured for about twenty years after it’s release
