Marty’s self-written #1 hit from 1967. Great showcase for his amazing vocal ability. This is one of his most difficult songs to perform live as the verses contain extremely long stanzas that don’t even allow for a full breath. His pitch-perfect falsetto on the one word chorus is a joy to behold. Doubt that any of today’s alleged country singers could even come close to this performance. Judged purely on vocal ability, range and versatility Marty is the best country singer the genre will ever have.

Bill Johnson plays the excellent steel guitar licks to replace the horn section used for the studio recording. Bill wrote the 1962 Stonewall Jackson classic “A Wound Time Can’t Erase” and Marty’s 1972 top-ten hit “The Best Part Of Living.” Bill passed away in 2009.
