My Kind of Country

Country music from a fan's point of view since 2008

In memoriam: Merle Haggard (4/6/1937 – 4/6/2016)

It is with a heavy heart that I report the sad news that the great Merle Haggard has passed away on his 79th birthday. His health had been declining for quite some time, especially in recent weeks and months. This is a devastating loss for country music.

Very sad news. He really was one of the all-time great artists and songwriters in country music.

    Wow.
He kept fighting until the end–Seemed like if he wasn’t in the hospital, he was out there performing.

George Jones once asked “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” to be honest I don’t think you can singers like Merle George Conway and Tammy were all great and unique in their own right. RIP Merle.

Sad day indeed, but Merle left us a goldmine of great songs and great recordings with which to remember him. Willie’s Roadhouse at Sirius XM is playing a lot of Haggard for the next few days
