Nice clip of Loretta on the the Wilburn Brothers Show. Don Helms who was in the Wilburn’s band at that time faithfully recreates the same steel guitar licks that he played for Loretta’s September 8, 1961 Decca recording session. Don first gained fame as a member of Hank Williams Drifting Cowboys band.

A while back I found this vintage clip of Loretta on the Porter Wagoner Show. She sings two songs – her second Decca single “Success” and the follow-up release “Get Set For A Heartache.” Porter mentions that the second song is her brand new record and also congratulates her for becoming a new member of the Grand Ole Opry. Loretta became an official Opry member on Sept. 25, 1962 and her third single was released on October 29, 1962 so this appearance likely dates from late October or early November 1962. Note Loretta’s cowgirl style outfit. Not long afterwards she abandoned that look at the suggestion of Patsy Cline & her managers (The Wilburn Bros) for a more contemporary styled wardrobe. This is a great clip that spotlights a very young Loretta just at the dawn of her “Success.”

Well, the ‘cowgirl outfit’ looks good on her.
