One of the great songs of any kind from the 1960s, in my opinion, pop or country, from a master songwriter (Jimmy Webb) combining with Glen’s incredible talent. I think Frank Sinatra called this very song “the greatest torch song ever written”; and you’d be pretty hard pressed to argue with that, especially in this classic rendition (and it isn’t even the first, since Johnny Rivers first did it in 1966).

Glen Campbell has always seem to me to be very highly rated by his fans and his peers, but a lot of critics and certain of the public seem to sell him short, which I think is a mistake–especially now, since he can no longer be who he was.

I think Campbell’s “Golly” personality may have been a bit hard to take for critics–who tend to like more subdued, brooding artists–but his incredible and massive talent is undeniable.
one of the great things in the “I’ll Be Me” movie was seeing more-currently-famous artists like Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen greet and pay tribute to Glenn at one of his final awards-show appearances.
