Faron took this song to #4 in 1956. Nine years later George Jones and Gene Pitney did this as a duet that reached #16)

Love this clip. One of Faron’s catchiest hits of the 1950’s written by Ted Daffan who had released it as a Columbia single in 1950. Late that same year Webb Pierce wrote new lyrics and recorded the song for the Pacemaker label as “I Got Religion On A Saturday Night” giving Daffan co-writing credit.

In 1953 Pierce wrote a second set of lyrics for that same melody and published the song as “It’s Been So Long” under his wife’s Audrey Grisham’s name but not crediting Daffan for the melody. Pierce’s Decca recording became a #1 record and Webb later paid an out of court settlement to Daffan for royalties.
