Jay Lee Webb didn’t have an enduring career, this being the biggest of his three chart records reaching #21 in 1969. The song is a true honky-tonk classic that was covered by W.R. “Bud” Thornton’s band The Boxmasters in 2008. (Bud Thornton uses another name for other aspects of his show business career)

More people probably remember the song because the Wilburn Brothers included it on their album IT LOOKS LIKE THE SUN’S GONNA SHINE, performed the song on their syndicated television show, and kept the song in their concert repertoire for years. It was also on their last MCA album, 1973’s A PORTRAIT

Ernest Tubb included the song on his 1969 album SATURDAY SATAN, SUNDAY SAINT and would occasionally perform the song in concert

Jay Lee was a good singer but just didn’t have all the pieces that would’ve made him a star. Most of his records are enjoyable but not very memorable.

Wilburn’s owned the publishing on “She Lookin’ Better” so they made some extra money every time they performed it.
