Thank-you Hope! This is my favorite period for Ray Price’s music. Love his shuffles and the superb musicianship of his Cherokee Cowboy band. That’s Shorty Lavender on fiddle, Buddy Emmons on steel and Pete Wade singing harmony & assisting with the slick guitar choreography near the end of the clip. Ray’s Columbia recording of this great Mel Tillis song peaked at #5 in May 1961. Too bad this isn’t in color – black & white doesn’t do justice to Ray’s Nudie Suit.

Yes – a big thank you. I’m not sure this is my favorite period for Ray Price (there are classics scattered about throughout his long career) but it sure was a good period for Ray’s music

As much as I love Ray’s recording of the song, my favorite version was the writer’s version, a Record World #1 from 1970.
