    Sorry to say not one of their best efforts here. June was never a great singer and the passing years were not kind to her vocals. “Jackson” and “If I Were A Carpenter” were her best moments on record with Cash.

    Johnny and June’s recorded version–on his “Water From the Wells of Home” album–was better. But Cash’s career was so low at the time that it went nowhere.

    Not very long after that, Lacy J. Dalton did the song–not as a duet–and released it as a single–and her version got played on the radio.
