    I believe that the guy with the most country #1’s in the ’50s never had a #1 outside the ’50s; the guy with the most #1’s in the ’60s had 1 #1 outside of the ’60s (not counting getting taken for the ride on a duet); and the guy with the most #1’s in the ’80s never had a #1 outside of the ’80s.

      That ‘s true if you regard Billboard as the sole definitive source, which would be less true than was the case later. Webb Pierce had two songs reach #1 during the 1960s on either Cashbox or Record World . Buch Owens had two additional songs reach #1 on Cashbox during 1971
