This is a clip from an unaired TV pilot. “A Record World” was hosted by Ralph Emery with guests Johnny Cash & June Carter, Warner Mack, Sue Thompson and Junior Samples. The program never sold and the tape remained in the vault for decades.

Here’s an edit of the show that includes the open & close of the program. The open is VERY ’60’s man. Love the parasols.

They so don’t make TV like that anymore. This is fantastic. Love the opening with the b-roll of Nashville.

Can’t believe they got Johnny Cash to hold the parasol in the opening, though. Doesn’t seem like the type of thing he’d do (too cutesy). But June did have a way of bringing out his lighter side.

I thought the same thing the first time I saw Cash with the parasol several years ago. Doesn’t quite fit his outlaw/Man In Black image. Cash was good friends with Emery and I’m sure that his appearance on the show – and his particpation in the hokey opening was mostly due to that. Emery said he shopped this tape to all three major networks but was turned down. Can’t imagine why. Even for the 1960’s the low budget presentation was pretty lame.

Good thing Emery didn’t get Haggard for this. He defintely wouldn’t have done the parsol bit. Haggard once walked off the Ed Sullivan show because they wanted him to dance.
