    The song doesn’t really lend itself to a female interpretation of the lyrics but if one really wants an effective female performance of the song, check out the version Wilma Burgess did on one of her albums. Ronstadt’s version here sounds like that of a giddy teenybopper

    In fairness to Ronstadt, she would become a much better song interpreter in the years to follow

    Wow Ronstadt takes your heart away. She was so young but the sound of her voice was gorgeous – it only got better.

    Linda sounds a lot tougher on the recorded version for HAND SOWN, HOME GROWN, with a distinct growl in her voice and a decidedly threatening edge. Even at that very early point of her career, she wasn’t someone to fool around with (IMHO).
