One of country music’s most distinctive voices. I LOVE Jean Shepard.

Jean remained on the Capitol Records roster from 1953-1972 despite several years without charted records during her first decade with the label. The full-length version of this song was one of three 1956 singles that went uncharted as did all three of her 1957 singles and her first two releases for 1958. After briefly charting one release late in 1958 and another in early 1959 Jean endured almost a five year span from mid-1959 through late May 1964 with no Billboard chart action.* But after “Second Fiddle (To An Old Guitar)” in 1964 Jean charted at least two singles during each subsequent year until she left the label.

[*Some of the 1959-1963 uncharted Billboard songs made brief appearances in Cashbox Magazine charts ]

During her 20 years with Capitol Jean only scored 9 top ten hits. Many of those uncharted songs were quite good and it’s a shame that most are pretty much forgotten. Thanks Hope for bringing back this one!
