Remakes usually go one of two ways. Either they are superb or completely horrible. Connie Smith caught lightning in a bottle with her 1971 version of Don Gibson’s 1960 original.

Also loved her 1969 remake of Marty Robbins’ hit “Ribbon Of Darkness.”

She is so talented! I wish the people they play on the radio nowadays sounded as good as her. One of the best voices in the genre, right up there with Patsy Cline, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Reba, George Strait, and Leann Rimes.

Do you think George Strait is a woman?? Or is his just the only male voice in the history of the genre that ranks?

No, I do not. I was just giving a small sample. Perhaps I should have listed more males. George Jones, Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Keith Whitley, John Anderson, Conway Twitty, and Alan Jackson would all rank as well, just to name a few.
