keithwhitley-rcacountrylegends

Update: Congratulations to Stacy Peterson. She won our Keith Whitley giveaway for May.
I’ll be contacting you via email.  Stick around for more giveaways soon!

All month long we’ve been telling you about the life and music of Keith Whitley.  Now we’re going to give you a chance to win some of the great music he made.  There have been several compilations and hits packages of Keith’s catalog released by RCA and I think this is one of the best of the bunch. Released in 2002 it includes 16 of his biggest hits like ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’, ‘I Wonder Do You Think Of Me’, and ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ as well as remastered versions of several tracks – ‘Til A Tear Becomes A Rose’ with Lorrie Morgan, ‘I Never Go Around Mirrors’ and more.

To enter, just leave a comment telling us your favorite Keith Whitley song before 11:59 PM Sunday May 31, 2009.  Good luck and thanks for visiting us.

If you just have to have this album now, it’s readily available at Amazon.

This album is worth having if only to have Keith’s fantastic version of “Pick Me Up On Your Way Down”.

“I Never Go Around Mirrors” is one of my favorite songs – it also ranks near “The Last Letter” as one of the saddest songs ever written

There’s a lot of good options here, but I’ll go with “I’m No Stranger To The Rain.”

My absolute favorite- I’m No Stranger to the Rain

“Don’t Close Your Eyes” is my favorite Keith Whitley song. A pleading lyric and a haunting vocal – It’s not just Keith at his best – it’s country music at its best.

I have to agree on “Don’t Close your Eyes.” I wasn’t listening to country much back then, but it made me sit up and listen. The gruffness (is that a word) of his voice is what got me.

That sounds like a great contest! I’ll check out his music!

I’ll always love “I’m Over You.”

Our wedding song is my favorite!!! “When You Say Nothing At All” tears me up every time it’s on the radio now. In fact we were married 11 years ago Saturday, May 23rd!

I’m a fan of all songs mentioned above, but also appreciate “Brotherly Love.”

You’d have to be stone to not be moved by Whitley’s music and vocals.

You can’t go wrong with any of these but my favorite is ‘I Wonder Do You Think Of Me’

Sadly his life was like the song Sad Songs & Waltzes, which is my favorite song.He went way before his time.

I have a new favorite right now – She Never Got Me Over You – the last song he wrote, but never got to record – I have been hearing it on XM/Sirius, which has been recorded by Mark Chestnutt and there is something about the song that I just love – it would have been amazing sung by him…..

“When you say nothing at all” …almost won out over “I cross my heart” as our first dance song. It was a hard choice.

I think, “Don’t close your eyes”

I’m going to go with “I Never Go Around Mirrors” but you really can’t go wrong with Keith. I count myself blessed to have been able to see him live not long before he passed. It was a wonderful show.
