I heard Tanya Tucker's version of this song (and Dolly's version of "Muleskinner Blues", not to mention several of Rodgers' songs performed by Haggard) before I ever heard the Brakeman sing. Tanya recorded "Daddy and Home" for a 1987 tribute album called The Superstars Salute Jimmie Rodgers. Her song was released as a single and went to #27. It was later included on her own Strong Enough to Bend and Greatest Hits albums.

This clip is from the Columbia movie short “The Singing Brakeman” filmed in Camden, NJ in the fall of 1929. It was Rodgers only movie appearance. He performed three songs, “Waiting For A Train,” “Daddy And Home” and “Blue Yodel No. 1 (T-For Texas).” I first saw “Waiting For A Train” from this film on The Johnny Cash Show on ABC-TV in January 1971 during a two-part special that chronicled the history of county music. I was so thrilled to see a film of the man that I had only heard on record and seen in photographs. Despite the low budget movie set Rodgers’ charm and warmth clearly comes through. Love his trademark guitar runs.

Tanya Tucker had a nice recording of this song on her 1987 Capitol album STRONG ENOUGH TO BEND. It was also on her 1989 Capitol album GREATEST HITS
